On Tuesday 14 March, the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies held its first ever careers day, at the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies in St Antony's College.
Four SIAS alumni came back to talk to current master's students about their experiences and career paths since leaving Oxford. They were Sarah Covington (MSc African Studies, 2012), Babak Moussavi (MSc Contemporary India, 2014), James Tunningley (MSc Contemporary Chinese Studies, 2015) and Josh Toohey (MSc Contemporary Chinese Studies, 2016). Between them they covered a broad range of career experience including both public and private sector work. The event was chaired by SIAS DGS, Dr Paul Irwin Crookes, and also featured a presentation by Mike Moss of the Oxford Careers Service.
About forty students from across SIAS attended the careers day including students from Africa, China, the LAC, the Nissan, REES and South Asia. The event was also opened up to other students at St Antony's.
Following the formal presentations, there was a reception where students were able to continue discussions informally with the presenters over a glass of wine and canapes.
The event was very successful and we plan to organise another one in Michaelmas 2017.
