Uma Pradhan and Karen Valentin edited a collection of papers that explore the relational nature of the state in the context of social and political transformation in Nepal. Foregrounding the continually changing and evolving nature of the state, the contributions to the special section focus on the ways in which the state ‘comes into being’ in relation to different actors, ideas and institutions, exploring the multiple manifestations of state. This collection is published as a special section in South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies, Vol 42, Issue 5.
